Tin Can Customs Controller urged to treat bonded terminals fairly

The General Secretary, Association of Bonded Terminal Operators of Nigeria (ABTON), Aare Asiwaju Haruna Omolajomo, has advised the new Customs Area Controller of Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Joe Anani, to take time to study the challenges hindering cargo clearance and container transfer to bonded terminals in the port with a view to providing adequate solutions that will enhance trade facilitation.

Aare Asiwaju Haruna Omolajomo, who is the Managing Director of HARSECOM Logistics Ltd, drew attention of Comptroller Joe Anani to the perilous state of bonded terminals which, he said, was not too good considering the huge investments committed by their proprietors into the business.

Omolajomo said no fewer than 12 bonded terminals are under Tin Can Island Port Command and they do not get containers from the main ports. He urged Comptroller Joe Anani to treat them fairly.

Omolajomo gave this counsel in a statement hailing the recent elevation of Comptroller Frank Okechukwu Onyeka to Assistant Comptroller General of Customs as well as the appointment of Comptroller Joe ANANI as the Customs Area Controller of the Tin Can Island Command, Nigeria Customs Service.

Aare Asiwaju Omolajomo said both officers – Onyeka and Anani – deserve these great elevation, describing them as seasoned officers well groomed for their assigned responsibilities.

According to Aare Omolajomo, “I wish to praise their intelligence, discipline, diligence as well as their courageous and inspiring leadership. I have the full confidence that both of them would succeed in their various assignments.”

Omolajomo expressed confidence that Comptroller Joseph Anani would definitely enhance trade facilitation and surpass the revenue target of the command.
