ILO Advisor visits MWUN, charges Nigeria to implement Cabotage quickly

The Regional Advisor, International Labour Organization (ILO) for Labour Conventions, Dr. Amos Hosea Kuje, has harped on the quick implementation of the Carbotage laws by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), saying its ineffectiveness is a setback for Nigerian sailors.

Dr. Amos Hosea Kuje stated this during his visit to the President General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, in Lagos.

The ILO Advisor advocated more on regular trainings of seafarers to acquainting them with modern sophisticated operational methodology, to be at par with their counterparts across the globe.

Dr. Amos urged Comrade Bunu to commence the single Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that will involve both the Ratings and Officers on board vessels; and the upgrading of all the Maritme Training Institutions, so as to keep the passing out cadets at par with their global counterparts.

He added that if the institutions were upgraded, there would be so much significance attached to the Nigerian seafarers in all the nooks and crannies of the world.

Welcoming the visitor, the MWUN President-General, Comrade Bunu thanked Dr. Amos for the visit and assured him that all that all the subjects of their discussion would be carried out in cooperation with some agencies in the sector for the betterment of Nigerian seafarers.
