NUJ Lagos holds special prayers, medical checkup at February congress

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, will, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, hold special prayers and free medical checks for members at its Congress at the NUJ Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.

This initiative follows recent deaths of members due to various health challenges.

Against this backdrop, the NUJ Chairman, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi, affirmed that the Union will not rest on its oars in promoting members’ welfare.

He stated that a comprehensive medical outreach, alongside special prayers, has been arranged to help members stay fit and healthy.

“You will recall that we have recently lost some of our members to one illness or another.

“We all know that journalists are hardworking and very busy people. Nonetheless, I want to encourage our members to undertake regular medical check-ups, as early detection of ailments provides a better chance for timely medical intervention,” he said.

The medical exercise will be conducted by Medical Officers of Health from Ikeja Local Government under the Lagos State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with Sound Nutritional Health Consult (SNHC).

Tests to be carried out by the Ikeja Local Government medical team will include blood sugar level and blood pressure checks. Sound Nutritional Health Consult (SNHC) will also provide Quantum Resonance Magnetic Analyzer machines, which scan the body within minutes and generate results.

The Union therefore urged to attend the Congress and take advantage of this free medical exercise which will commence at 9am.

The Council commended the Welfare Committee, headed by Mrs. Julie Ekong, for putting this initiative together.

In addition, arrangements have been concluded to hold special prayers for members with renowned religious leaders invited to offer spiritual support and intercessions for all.
