Lagos NUJ Chairman, Ajayi, bags recognition award

The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, Comrade Adeleye Ajayi, is among eminent journalists who were honoured with the awards of Special Recognition of Outstanding Media Professionals by NUJ Zone B, at a Public Lecture titled Nigeria at 64: Journalism in the Face of Socio-economic Challenges.

The lecture, held at Iwe Iroyin House, Abeokuta on Thursday, October 3, 2024, was to commemorate Nigeria at 64 and also to examine the critical state of journalism in the country.

The guest speaker was Chief Dare Babarinsa, who also received the award. Other recipients included Alhaji Yisa Adele, Mr. Gbenga Ogunremi, Mrs Funke Egbemode, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya and Mr. Femi Adefila.

Comrade Adeleye Ajayi, who was elated by the award, thanked the NUJ Zone B for counting worthy for the honour, saying it is a booster for him to contribute more to the growth of journalism in Nigeria.

The Zone B comprises of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun Ondo and Ekiti. Iwe Iroyin House, which is also the secretariat of NUJ Ogun State Council, is the place where Rev. Henry Townsend started the first newspaper in Nigeria, Iwe Iroyin (for Egba and Yoruba) in 18th century.
