Nigeria Police remains committed to gender inclusion – AIG Maritime

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the Maritime Police Command, Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos, Musa Yusuf Garba, has expressed readiness to partner with the Women in Maritime of West and Central Africa (WIMOWCA), Nigeria Chapter,  and other maritime-based associations, especially in organizing capacity-building workshops for officers and men of the command.

AIG Garba said such engagements would increase operational efficiency and enhance the Command’s core mandate of safeguarding lives and property within Nigeria’s maritime environment.

Garba pledged the partnership when he played host to a delegation from the WIMOWCA, led by its President, Mrs. Oritsematosan Edodo-Emore, at the headquarters of the command at Obalende, Lagos recently.

AIG Musa Yusuf Garba assured the visitors that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to gender inclusion, emphasizing that the Maritime Police Command upholds this mandate by ensuring that women hold strategic leadership roles within its management team.

Earlier in her remarks, the WIMOWCA President, Mrs. Oritsematosan Edodo-Emore, commended the Maritime Police Command for its unwavering efforts in tackling criminal activities within Nigeria’s maritime domain.

She particularly noted the Command’s steadfast commitment in the face of societal constraints, and further advocated for increased gender inclusiveness and equitable representation of women within the command.

WIMOWCA-Nigeria, a national arm of the regional body established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2021, is tasked with driving the IMO’s global vision of inclusion, diversity, and the advancement of women in the maritime sector.
