NCAT plans to acquire more training aircraft, adopt ICAO Decarbonization Policy

 

The Rector, Nigeria Aviation College Technology (NCAT), Dr. Danjuma Ismaila, has disclosed that the College plans to acquire additional aircraft and other infrastructure to meet its training capacity, not only for airlines and other stakeholders in Nigeria but for Africa.

The Rector disclosed this on Monday, May 26, 2025 while opening the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) Training at the NCAT Zaria campus in Kaduna State.

“I found that there is a deficit in infrastructure – a huge gap – to meet the demands of airlines and other stakeholders. We are working to repositioning the college to close this gap by acquiring additional training aircraft and expanding other facilities. There is a new building under construction to provide more hostels and classrooms for our students,” said he.

To also repositioning the college, Dr. Danjuma Ismaila informed that NCAT is working speedily on the adoption of the ICAO Decarbonization Policy for the  benefit of the school.

“We are adopting the decarbonization policy of the ICAO. We are changing our vehicles to CNG and adopting solar energy to reduce carbon emissions. We are looking at the financial aspect of the policy such as Carbon Credits, so that the college can earn financial benefits,” said Ismaila.

Thanking the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for continuously sponsoring the training, the Rector said the training would have a great impact on the journalists while reporting the industry.

He informed that the college recently graduated 30 aircraft controllers who came from French speaking countries in West Africa to learn Aviation English.

He said the graduation was a remarkable event as Aviation English is compulsory for air controllers, particularly for professionals who are not from  English-speaking countries.

He thanked the press for the support but demanded for more, pointing out that the college is underreported.

While speaking, the Chairman of LAAC, Mr. Idris Suleiman expressed gratitude to the Director General, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Captain Chris Najomo and the management of NCAT for supporting the training despite the global economic fluctuation which has affected the aviation industry.

“For two years, we have undergone this training in another institution. The experience we gathered is equally useful to the industry but we have been placed in a position where we can see the difference in training quality and overall performance of both institutions. I affirm here that NCAT is not doing badly at all.

“This gathering marks not just the start of another training session, but it is a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to excellence, capacity building, and responsible journalism within the aviation sector.

“The role of aviation correspondents, particularly in an evolving industry like ours, cannot be overstated. You are the bridge between the industry and the public—the narrators of our progress, our challenges, and our aspirations.

“This training course is therefore an opportunity to deepen understanding, strengthen professional ethics, and explore new trends in global aviation,” said LAAC Chairman.
