Shoreham Port and Ports of Jersey get renewed PERS certification

Europe Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) has disclosed that Shoreham Port and Ports of Jersey,  both in the United Kingdom, have been recertified through the EcoPorts environmental management Standard (PERS).

Shoreham Port is a long-standing member of EcoPorts since 2013 and is receiving the PERS certificate for the seventh time, while Ports of Jersey has been an EcoPorts member since 2022 and is being PERS certified for the first time.

Tim Verhoeven, ESPO Senior Policy Advisor and EcoPorts Coordinator, said “We are delighted that British ports remain committed, operating close to Europe. Their ambitions match those of European participants. We sincerely thank the ports for their long-standing commitment and active participation.”

Isabelle Ryckbost, ESPO Secretary General, commented “We are happy to see that our British members remain engaged in EcoPorts. EcoPorts can thus serve as a useful platform of exchange of environmental performance between the EU and the UK ports”.

PERS (Port Environmental Review System) is the only port-specific environmental standard. The last five years have seen important increases in its recognition and membership, with 80 ports from 25 countries currently counting themselves as part of the EcoPorts Network, and 29 ports holding PERS certification. Compliance with the EcoPorts’ PERS standard is independently assessed by LRQA Nederland B.V. and the certificate has a validity of two years. EcoPorts’ PERS is revised after the 2-year period, ensuring ports continuously meet the requirements.
