ITF Vice President calls for upgrading of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, lauds Nigeria on IMO election

The Vice President Global, International Transport Workers Federation (ITF), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju has urged the Nigerian government to upgrade the standards of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron, to serve seafarers and dockworkers adequately in obtaining their necessary documents here in Nigeria instead of going to Ghana.

Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, a former President General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), made this call on the heels of Nigeria winning the election into the International Maritime Organisation Council Category Council last week.

Commending the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, on the successful election, Prince Adeyanju, urged the Federal Government use the same efforts of winning the IMO Category Council election to raise the standards of MAN.

“I am convinced that with the efforts put together in achieving the IMO Seat successfully, the Federal Government can replicate the same measures in raising the standards of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, for the best of the institution’s cadets and the country’s seafarers, who toil most time fruitlessly to getting their seamen certificates in neighbouring countries, which is always not the best for them,” said Adeyanju, who is the Chairman of BoT of the Union.

On the IMO Council election, Adeyanju lauded the minister, Adegboyega Oyetola, over Nigeria winning the election, saying “Oyetola has brought honour and pride to Nigeria having secured the IMO Category ‘C’ to place Nigeria on the global map of maritime map and thus raising the nation’s maritime industry to a lofty height.”

Prince Adeyanju also commended the Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), the Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and the Executive Secretary of Nigerian Shippers’ Council for their coordinated synergy in this landmark achievement for Nigeria and her maritime sector.
