The new Acting Controller of Murtala Mohammed Airport Area Command (MMAC), Deputy Comptroller MD Mundi, has pledged that his administration will be guided by continuity, discipline, integrity and improved service delivery.
Deputy Comptroller MD Mundi made this pledge while taking over the leadership of the command from Acting Assistant Comptroller General of Customs GA Otunla, the immediate past controller of the command, in Lagos recently.
Mundi said “We shall intensify efforts towards revenue generation, block revenue leakages and ensure compliance with extant Customs laws and regulations. We shall also strengthen our anti-smuggling operations and collaboration with relevant security agencies to protect our national economy and public health. Equally important, we shall promote efficient cargo clearance, facilitate legitimate trade and minimise avoidable delays without compromising enforcement standards.”
Commending Otunla on his achievements in office and his elevation to the position of ACG, Mundi promised he would consolidate on the achievements.
“I congratulate Acting ACG GA Otunla on his elevation and new appointment as Acting ACG, Human Resources Development. Your tenure at this Command has been remarkable, with notable achievements in revenue generation, the seizure of substantial quantities of cannabis sativa and Canadian Loud, sustained stakeholder engagement and the maintenance of a peaceful working environment.
“These accomplishments reflect your dedication, purposeful leadership and commitment to the Service. On behalf of the officers and men of this Command, I commend your achievements and wish you greater success in your new assignment. As I assume this responsibility, I assure you that we shall consolidate on the foundation you have laid and sustain the positive achievements recorded during your tenure,” said Mundi.
He said he would work with all stakeholders – importers, exporters, customs agents and others harmoniously and sustain stakeholders’ engagement.
According to him, “I consider stakeholder engagement indispensable to our success. Therefore, I look forward to sustaining cordial relationships with our importers, exporters, licensed customs agents, airlines, cargo terminal operators, sister agencies and other critical stakeholders. Your cooperation and compliance will remain essential to achieving our shared objectives.”
Speaking directly to officers and men of the command, Deputy Comptroller Mundi charged them to remain disciplined, dedicated, professional and committed to duty.
“My dear officers and men of this Command, I urge you to remain disciplined, dedicated, professional and committed to duty. I expect teamwork, respect for the chain of command, integrity and accountability at all times. Together, we shall build on existing achievements and strive for even greater results while sustaining the peaceful and harmonious atmosphere within the command,” Mundi said, soliciting support of other security agencies.
“I am fully aware of the responsibilities that accompany this appointment. I therefore count on the support of the Comptroller General of Customs, the management of the Service, our sister agencies, stakeholders and, most importantly, the officers and men of this command. My assurance is that I will lead with fairness, firmness, transparency and a strong commitment to results,” Mundi submitted.
Reviewing the command’s performance during his tenure, ACG Otunla disclosed that the command generated a total of ₦175,680,895,471.74 between January and October 2026 for the Federal Government.
He also announced a significant breakthrough in daily revenue collection, stating that the Command had surpassed its previous record by 533 per cent, collecting ₦6.2 billion against the earlier benchmark of ₦1,164,480,877.51.
