Najomo underscores NCAA’s commitment to aviation security
The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Captain Chris Najomo, has underscored the commitment of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to fostering a security-conscious culture within the aviation sector in the country.
The representative of the Director General of Civil Aviation, the Director of Airworthiness Standards, Engr. Godwin Balang, stated this at a one-day security awareness training programme for the NCAA personnel in Abuja recently.
According to the DGCA, as global threats evolve, continuous investment in training ensures the industry stays three steps ahead of emerging threats while maintaining public confidence. Hence, effective aviation security training is not just a regulatory requirement; it is fundamental to safety, security and resilience of the civil aviation system.

He, therefore, commended the DAVSEC led by Dr. Ben Omogo for the recent successes in national aviation risk assessments, and the need for internal vigilance.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Omogo, noted that, in view of the highly sensitive and highly vulnerable nature of the aviation industry, the initiative is not only to address audit findings but also a regulatory requirement that anybody that has access to strategic airport areas to undergo the training. This is because insider threat and individuals within the organization misusing authorized access to compromise security constitute a major trend.
The expected outcomes of the training is to ensure regulatory compliance, equip staff with threat identification skills, reduce security breaches, improve emergency preparedness, enhance public trust in aviation security and promote ICAO’s security culture concept introduced around 2020.
The one-day security awareness training programme, organized in compliance with national regulations and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, had in attendance no fewer than 50 participants drawn from various directorates of the NCAA, and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).
