NCAA committed to building greener and sustainable aviation sector – Najomo
The Director-General Civil Aviation (DGCA), Captain Chris Najomo, has called for urgent collective action to ensure environmental sustainability and reduction of carbon emissions in the aviation sector.
Captain Chris Najomo also expressed the unwavering support of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for national and global environmental initiatives aimed at building a greener and more sustainable aviation sector.
He made this call during the 2026 World Environment Day celebration themed ‘’A Global Call for Climate action’’ organized by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in Lagos.
Represented by the Lagos Regional Manager, Barrister (Mrs) Bukola Teriba, the DGCA identified climate change as one of the greatest challenges facing the world today, thereby requiring urgent collective action.

He highlighted the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Long-Term Global Aspirational Goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions from international aviation by 2050.
In the light of this, the DGCA expressed the Authority’s deep commitment to implementing ICAO environmental standards through Nigeria’s State Action Plan on CO₂ Emissions Reduction and the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).
Najomo noted that the aviation industry has a critical role to play in reducing carbon emissions while continuing to support economic growth, trade, tourism, and global connectivity. Hence, it will continue to collaborate with airlines, airports, air navigation service providers, and other stakeholders to promote environmentally responsible operations and the adoption of green technologies.
While commending FAAN for organizing the event, Capt. Najomo called on stakeholders to embrace innovative and sustainable solutions, stressing that climate action is no longer a choice but a necessity for the future of the aviation industry and the environment.
The event, which has in attendance by representatives of aviation sister agencies, industry stakeholders, environmental experts, and members of the media, featured a presentation by the Guest Speaker, Prof. Prince Emeka Ndimele.
