FAAN supports Nigerian Army on logistics expansion

The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army in enhancing its Air Transport Operations.

In the same vein, the FAAN boss emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security across the nation’s airports.
Mrs Olubunmi Kuku gave the assurance on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 in separate meetings with senior officers from the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport in Lagos led by the Corps Commander, Major General Nansak Danjuma Shagaya, and the Commander of the National Air Defence Corps, Air Vice Marshal Japhet Ekwuribe.
Speaking earlier, Major General Shagaya noted that the purpose of the engagement was to strengthen and build on the existing relationship between the Nigerian Army and FAAN. He explained that the Corps was particularly interested in discussions around the possible restart of the Nigerian Army Air Freight Company, as well as collaboration on planned welfare flight operations for Army personnel.
According to him, the Army is seeking FAAN’s cooperation in ensuring seamless operations for the welfare flights, including the provision of designated holding areas and support systems to accommodate officers and soldiers with connecting flights.
He emphasized that such support would significantly improve the travel experience and welfare of military personnel, especially those moving across different operational locations.
In her response, the FAAN Managing Director welcomed the initiative and reiterated the Authority’s readiness to collaborate with the Nigerian Army. She assured the delegation of FAAN’s support in facilitating smooth and efficient operations for the proposed welfare flights, in line with its mandate to provide safe, secure, and passenger-friendly airport services.
With the National Air Defence Corps, Air Vice Marshal Japhet Ekwuribe, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku highlighted the evolving nature of security challenges within airport environments and noted that addressing them effectively requires strong partnerships, shared intelligence, and coordinated operational strategies.
According to her, FAAN remains committed to working closely with the Nigerian Air Force in key areas such as airside patrol support, improved communication around sensitive flight operations, and proactive monitoring of activities within and around airport perimeters.
She also drew attention to the issue of land encroachment, describing it as a growing concern that calls for collective vigilance and early intervention to safeguard critical aviation infrastructure.
Mrs. Kuku noted that collaboration among aviation stakeholders continues to play a crucial role in maintaining safety and operational efficiency, adding that FAAN values its relationship with the Air Force and looks forward to building on existing cooperation.
In his remarks, Air Vice Marshal Ekwuribe commended FAAN’s leadership for its proactive approach to aviation safety, describing the visit as an opportunity to strengthen institutional ties and enhance coordination in addressing shared security priorities.
He added that closer collaboration would further improve surveillance, response capabilities, and overall operational effectiveness within Nigeria’s airport system.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continuous engagement and to developing practical frameworks that will support a safe, secure, and efficient aviation environment.
The visit reflects a shared commitment by FAAN and the Nigerian Air Force to work together in protecting vital aviation infrastructure and ensuring the continued safety of airport operations across the country.
