Lekki Port poised to meet 500,000 TEUs in 2025

Lekki Deep Sea Port says is poised to meet its projected 500,000 TEUs for 2025 despite its half year performance of 222,000 TEUs.

The port, at the start of operations in 2023, processed 55,289 TEUs and in 2024, it handled over 222,000 TEUs. The port currently receives between 10 and 12 vessels every month.

Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Lekki Port, Daniel Odibe, disclosed this development at a media parley in Lagos on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

Odibe informed that the port has started transhipment to West African countries like Ghana, Abidjan, Togo and Cotonou and focuses more on servicing local Nigerian ports such as Warri, Calabar, Onne and inland port in Onitsha that could not accommodate bigger vessels.

The Deputy COO said the port management is in full support of the Lagos State e-Call-up System for trucks picking cargo in Lekki axis that will commence operation in August. He maintained that the system would quicken cargo delivery.

He noted that the port would be integrated into the Lagos e-call up system to avoid double registration by their customers. He pointed out that once a customer has registered with Lekki Port, the registration is linked to the Lagos e-call up system automatically.

On cargo delivery to other parts of the country, Odibe stated that the port is connected by an array of roads, including the ongoing Coastal Road, to move cargo into hinterland. He added that the port delivers cargo by barges.

Speaking earlier,  Mr. Yang Xixiong, Chief Operating Officer, said the port has continued to uphold its position as West Africa’s deepest sea port by deploying technology, driving operational efficiency, and shaping regional trade.

The COO averred that the port is committed to the development of its community and the well-being of the inhabitants through its corporate social responsibility.

“We are committed to inclusive growth in youth education programmes that enhance literacy, upgrade of school infrastructure, provision of basic learning materials, tree planting exercises among other noble causes that ensure building a sustainable tomorrow.
