PortNews Summit 2025 will be unique as the occasion, which come up on Thursday 6th November at Rockview Hotel, Apapa,will be used to mark the 30th anniversary of the publication.
An anniversary lecture themed , Nigeria’s Shipping Carriage Gaps, CVFF and the Fading Manpower, will be delivered by Captain Ladi Olubowale, President of African Shipowners Association. He will put on the front burner the monotonous Cabotage Vessel Finance Fund. Why, since 2005, the huge pile of millions of dollars in NIMASA’s vault has not been released to deserving Nigerians to acquire ocean going vessels for Nigeria’s active participation in sea cargo carriage. Meanwhile,our vastly trained seamen are ageing.
The event has also been dedicated to celebrating not only PortNews but a select individuals with outstanding,selfless performances in aspects of the freight forwarding industry.
As part of events to mark the milestone, anniversary awards will be presented to the Nigerian Ports Authority( NPA) and Flour Mills of Nigeria( FMN) for their nation building efforts for several decades.
Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has performed brilliantly to ensure that Nigeria’s airspace is very safe and there have been no planes falling from the skies anymore in recent years. Award of Air Safety Master will be given to her for these laudable efforts.
Notably, Captain Emmanuel lhenacho will receive the high award of Port Legend for longstanding selfless efforts in revamping the shipping industry back to its glorious past. The former Minister of lnterior has been a lone voice at various fora telling the authorities the right path to the golden era.
Dr Taiwo Afolabi has grown Sifax Group to an enviable status and lent respect and belief to indigenous entrepreneurship in shipping and maritime trade. He will receive the Port Legend Award.
At the anniversary, the Chairman of Thasiuos International Nigeria Limited, a leading freight forwarding company, High Chief Athanasius Egwim, will bag Award of Port Master. Also, Prince Olusegun Oduntan, Managing Director/CEO, Settle Systems, will be presented with the Award of Port Master.
