Adeyanju commends Bunu over peaceful Shipping Branch elections, salutes Abass
The immediate past President-General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade (Prince) Dr. Adewale Adeyanju, has commended his successor, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, for the peaceful conduct of the Shipping Branch elections on Monday, June 16, 2025.
The elections, held at the national secretarial of the Union, produced Comrade Femi Abass as the new Branch President. Until his election, Comrade Femi Abass was the Vice President of Shipping branch. He took over the reign of the Branch affairs from Comrade Ekpeyon Ekpeyon.
Comrade Adeyanju poured encomiums on the courage of Comrade Bunu for not letting the Union down, given the orderliness with which the Shipping election was conducted and concluded in a peaceful atmosphere, devoid of commotion and the like as wrongly anticipated.
The Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Vice Chairman Global, International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) said he had no regrets and had no doubts in his mind on the choice, abilities and capabilities of the current PG of the Union.
Adeyanju stressed that Comrade Bunu was the rightful candidate, who had taken over the reigns of leadership of the Union as at the time he exited the leadership of the Union.
The labour leader also praised all the stakeholders in the maritime sector for their immense cooperation and support for Comrade Bunu and pleaded to members to exercise patience with the new President-General, saying with time, his good intentions for the Union will begin to manifest as time progresses.
Adeyanju also admonished the newly elected Executives of the Shipping branch to be tolerant with one another, work together with one mind, peace and accord to achieve a better aim for the branch and for the general wellbeing of the Union.
He, charged the new Executives to aim for the better in this first tenure and wished they succeed in all their endeavors, while congratulating them for a successful branch election.
Prince Adeyanju promised that Comrade Abass will not let the Union down, given his personal traits of life, discipline, thoroughness, commitment, loyalty, dignity towards labour, hard work and care, which he has continued to demonstrate in and outside the Union.
