Branch elections: MWUN warns contestants against campaigns of calumny

As preparations towards the branch elections are in top gear, the President-General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has frowned against campaigns of calumny and warned contestants to desist from indiscriminate placing of campaign fliers, banners and stickers at the quay apron, terminals, jetties, oil & gas platform, on-board vessels and union offices nation wide.

The President-General gave the warning in a statement issued by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media, MWUN, today.

In the statement, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi warned “In as much as the Union recognizes the right of every member to participate or contest the Union’s elective positions, it is imperative that contestants and members of the Union must abide by the rules of the Union by eschewing campaign of bitterness and to observe discipline, peace and decorum within the folds of the Union.

“Having said that, the Union will not hesitate to deal decisively or sanction any contestant or member who flouts this standing order. The Union will not compromise her peaceful status over whatsoever reason in the guise of elective positions campaign.”
