Customs begins inspection of customs agencies, bonded terminals as ANLCA reiterates members’ cooperation
The Nigeria Customs Service has started 2024 inspection of bonded terminals and customs licensed agencies with a warning that agencies and terminals that do not comply with its compliance guidelines would not have their licenses renewed.
The Customs began the inspection in Zone A (Lagos and other states in South West) on Monday October 21 and would end on November 8, 2024.
This development was stated in a letter addresed to the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) by the Customs Service and signed by Assistant Comptroller General Timi Bomodi in charge of Enforcement, Inspection and Investigation.
According to the letter, “In compliance with the approval granted by the Comptroller-General of Customs on the above subject matter, I write to inform you that the exercise is scheduled to commence from Monday 21 st October- Friday 8th November, 2024 for Zone A, and Monday 21 st October- Friday 1 st November, 2024 for Zones B & C respectively.
“It is imperative to note that only agencies and bonded terminals inspected and found compliant will be issued a Certificate of Inspection allowing them to renew their operational license for the year 2025.
“You are kindly requested to disseminate this information to all your members and ensure compliance.”
However, the National Publicity Secretary of ANLCA, Emmanuel Onyeme, reiterated the commitment and cooperation of all ANLCA members with the Customs inspection exercise.
Speaking with PortNews in Lagos today on the inspection, the ANLCA Spokesman said immediately the letter got to their secretariat, they began to sensitise all members on the need to cooperate with the Customs Inspection Team.
Onyeme said the team, which comprises units from the office of Assistant Comptroller General Enforcement, Inspection and Investigation, is to inspect and issue certificates of inspection for the renew of our operational license for 2025.
He was emphatic that some of ANLCA members had been cleared fit for the renewal of their operational licences.
“Immediately we received the letter from the Nigeria Customs Service, we began the sensitization of our members on the need to be up to date with the requirements of the Service so as to have the licences renewed without which they will not be able to practise.
“The inspection team since its arrival has touched key commands in Lagos where our members operate. Our members have been complying. I can tell you that our members are good to go with the inspection,” submitted ANLCA Spokesman.
