Customs seizes N4.7 billion cannabis and arms at Tincan Port
The operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, Tincan Island Port Command, have seized fifty five jumbo bags containing 2,366 packages of cannabis Indica with estimated street value of N4.7 billion.
Also seized was one colt’s MK IV series 70.45 Automatic Caliber Pistol (S419) with one empty magazine’
The Customs Area Controller of the command, Compt Frank Onyeka disclosed, saying one suspect was arrested in connection with the seizure.
“Precisely on Wednesday, January 28,2026, after an extensive physical examination conducted by our officers, alongside other relevant agencies, which included the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Department of State Services (DSS), with the declarant, a 40ft container was found to contain 55 jumbo bags of cannabis Indica and one colt’s MK IV series 70.45 Automatic Caliber Pistol (S419) with one empty magazine,” said Comptroller Onyeka.
Onyeka stated that the examination revealed that the following were used as means of concealment of the prohibited and undeclared items: 3 used vehicles, namely, 1 used Hyundai Santa Fe, 1 used Toyota Sienna 1 used Toyota Matrix.

The Controller said the seized narcotics would be formally handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and prosecution in line with the existing laws.
According to him, the firearm would also be handed over to the relevant agency in the soonest possible time.
He warned that the Service would not tolerate drug smuggling or any form of transnational crime and remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding national security and public health.
Onyeka appreciated the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR for his unwavering support, leadership and strategic guidance, which he noted has continued to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and operational effectiveness.
He assured the public of the command’s sustained vigilance and determination to combat smuggling and other illegal activities at all the ports entry.
