DP World secures 5 year concession extension at Thailand’s port

DP World has secured a five-year concession extension to continue operating the B5 container berth at Thailand’s Laem Chabang Port through its joint venture, Laem Chabang International Terminal Co., Ltd. (LCIT).

The agreement, awarded by the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT), will run from May 2026 to April 2031 and comes amid growing intra-Asian trade volumes and shifting regional supply chain patterns.

LCIT operates the B5 and C3 berths at Laem Chabang, Thailand’s largest deep-sea port and primary container gateway.

The facilities provide 900 metres of berth length, allowing up to four vessels to berth simultaneously, alongside 4,420 square metres of on-dock container freight station capacity.

In 2025, LCIT handled a record 1.936 million TEUs, marking the terminal’s highest annual throughput to date and reflecting continued growth in regional container demand.

The extension supports further investment in terminal equipment and electrification initiatives at the port.

In 2025, LCIT introduced five electric internal transfer vehicles (eITVs), which the company said reduced emissions by around 60 per cent compared with diesel-powered alternatives while also supporting faster vessel operations.

Additional equipment upgrades are scheduled for 2026, including more eITVs, electric reach stackers and an electric empty container handler as operators continue to focus on emissions reductions and operational efficiency across terminal assets.

Beyond port operations, DP World has expanded its inland logistics presence across Thailand through cross-border trucking, freight forwarding and landside logistics services.

The company recently launched a rail-linked inland container yard in Khon Kaen, supported by a dedicated three-times-weekly rail shuttle connecting northeastern Thailand with Laem Chabang Port.

The development is intended to strengthen cargo connectivity between Thailand’s hinterland manufacturing base and international shipping routes, while supporting the movement of exports across the wider Asia-Pacific region.
