Freight forwarders are excited over the appointment of Mr. Igwe Kingsley Onyekachi as the Registrar/CEO of Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) by the Federal Government. They described the appointment as cheering and the beginning of good developments in the sector.

On Wednesday, 30th October, 2024, the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy announced Igwe Kingsley Onyekachi as the substantive Registrar/CEO of CRFFN.

The ministry said the appointment was part of efforts to reposition the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) for better efficiency and management.

According to the announcement, his appointment is in accordance with the relevant provisions of the CRFFN Act 2007 and it is for a duration of four(4) years in the first instance.

Onyekachi takes over from the acting Registrar/CEO, Mrs. Chinyere Uromta. He holds a master’s degree in Transportation and Logistics, hails from Imo State, South – East Nigeria. He is an active registered member of the CRFFN.

Commenting on the appointment, Chidi Anthony Opara, a Registered Freight Forwarder and former member of CRFFN’s Freight Forwarders Consultative  Forum, said the announcement was exciting as this would be the first time since the establishment of CRFFN that a practising Registered Freight Forwarder would be given the task of managing CRFFN.

According to him, “this appointment means that the Regulatory agency of freight forwarding in Nigeria would now hopefully start pursing the ideals for which it was established.

“This would be the first time since the establishment of CRFFN that a practising Registered Freight Forwarder would be given the task of managing CRFFN.

“Prior to this time, it has been a period of square pegs in a round hole, which have left the regulatory agency groping for direction.

“This groping for direction hopefully would now be a thing of the past when the practising Registered Freight Forwarder eventually assumes office.”
