The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Barrister Festus Keyamo, has directed the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to cooperate fully with the Nigeria Air Force on airworthiness, certification, training and other aviation safety measures, while respecting the statutory mandates of both institutions.

The Minister gave the directive following his condolence visit to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke in Abuja on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Keyamo, in a post on Facebook, said he and the Chief of Air Staff agreed to deepen collaboration between the Civil Aviation Authorities and the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) in the areas of aviation safety, airworthiness, certification, training and capacity building.

According to Keyamo in the post, “Earlier today, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke and myself met and agreed to deepen collaboration between the Civil Aviation Authorities and the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) in the areas of aviation safety, airworthiness, certification, training and capacity building.

“The agreement was reached when I paid a condolence visit to the Chief of Air Staff following the tragic Nigeria Air Force aircraft incident at Igbokoda. The new framework for closer cooperation between civil and military aviation authorities will take off immediately.

“We immediately set up a  joint committee involving the NCAA and the Nigeria Air Force which would facilitate collaboration in airworthiness, certification, training and other aviation safety measures, while respecting the statutory mandates of both institutions.

“I have already directed the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to cooperate fully with the Nigeria Air Force to implement this new arrangement.”

It would be recalled that on Monday, October 5, 2026, a Nigeria Air Force aircraft from Benin, Edo State, crashed at Igbokoda, Ondo State, killing all passengers onboard.
