The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and Melsmore Nigeria Limited have signed the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for the workforce of Melsmore who are bonafide members of the Union.

Signing the CBA on Monday, November 9, 2025, the MWUN President General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, said the signing was a landmark achievement for both Melsmore Ltd and the Union, pointing out that no good industrial firm will neglect the welfare of its workers and moral ethics of its status quo.

Comrade Bunu said “Melsmore is one outfit in the maritime sector in Nigeria which understands the industrial working pace, knowing full well that workers deserve a good welfare and which is very important. That is the only way any industrial company can achieve optimum output, because when the workers are happy, the employers’ growth is also assured.”

He assured the Melsmore management a continuous harmonious relationship in the maritime industry, having increased the remuneration of its workers to a living wage, by putting into consideration the living standard of Nigerians currently, which the management said was to uplift the spirit and output of the Union workers in its employment.

He thanked Melsmore for giving a listening ear to the Union, which has eventually resulted into this harmonious development, believing that this mutual understanding will continue to flourish as partners in progress in the maritime sector.
