MWUN provides insurance for waterway passengers

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has provided insurance policy for its boat pilots and passengers.

The insurance policy is through Coronation Life Assurance Limited. MWUN operates forty two (42) Docks/Loading points in Rivers State.

Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media, MWUN, told PortNews about this development.

He disclosed that insurance policy involves Union as First Part; Multijanc Concept Limited as Second Part and; Coronation Life Assurance Limited as Third Part.

Ikemefuna said the Union ventured into the policy to safeguard its passengers against incidents of medical emergency, permanent disability, and death, while traveling on the waterways within its 42 loading points in Rivers State.

“The Union has approached the insurer through the consultant to provide insurance coverage for passengers who travel with the Union by sea against medical emergency, permanent disability, and death.

“This measure has been put in place to safeguard the lives of passengers and both drivers in the cases of boat mishaps within the spelt out zones in Rivers State,” said the Union’s spokesperson.
