NAMA takes over management of NAFIS Hangar

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has taken over the management of the Navigational Aids Flights Inspection and Surveillance (NAFIS) hangar in Lagos from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The assets ceded to NAMA include the hangar, an unserviceable calibration aircraft, ground power generator, flight calibration laboratory, library, and offices.

The takeover of the NAFIS hangar is expected to enhance the agency’s operations and contribute to the growth of the aviation industry in Nigeria.

According to a statement by the spokesman for NAMA, Abdullahi Musa, the Director of Safety Electronics and Engineering Services, Engr Terese Iheanacho, who represented NAMA’s Managing Director, expressed optimism that the takeover of the facility would boost the capacity of the agency in calibration of air navigation systems in the country and enhance seamlessness and efficiency in its operations.

Iheanacho noted that the Federal Government’s decision to reposition NAFIS as a key player in providing efficient flight calibration services globally led to the transfer of the Beechcraft KingAir 350i flight calibration aircraft with registration marking 5N-CAA and crew to NAMA.

The statement adds that, the agency has since developed indigenous flight calibration crew with the capacity to undertake routine and commissioning flight calibration services.

With this development, NAMA is now fully ready to extend its flight calibration services beyond the shores of Nigeria, in line with the Ministerial directive being implemented.
