Nigerian Railway Corporation marks first Customer Service Week in 128 years
For the first time in its 128 years of existence, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) joins the rest of the world in commemoration of the 2026 Customer Service Week.
Dr. Kayode Opeifa, Managing Director/CEO, said this was remarkable as the theme of the week, “The Extra Mile,” represents a continuation of the commitment of his administration putting passengers at the heart of the Corporation’s operations and continually improving the quality of their travel experience.
The 2026 Customer Service Week holds from October 5 to 9.
According to Dr. Kayode Opeifa, “the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) joins organisations around the world in celebrating the 2026 Customer Service Week.
“For the NRC, marking the week for the first time in its 128-year history is remarkable, as the theme represents a continuation of our commitment of putting passengers at the heart of the Corporation’s operations and continually improving the quality of their travel experience.
“The Corporation will use Customer Service Week not only to appreciate its customers but also to recognise employees who consistently demonstrate exceptional service and reinforce the importance of customer-centricity across the organisation.
“The experiences the Corporation has gone through in recent times have further reinforced the need for greater customer-centricity.
“Customers are at the heart of everything we do. Their feedback, trust and partnership challenge us to keep improving and delivering value every day. Customer Service Week is an opportunity to recognise that relationship and remind ourselves that great service must go beyond expectations.”
On theme, he said “The Extra Mile,” speaks directly to the evolving expectations of today’s train customers. Going the extra mile can mean listening more closely, resolving an issue faster, providing clearer information, anticipating a customer’s needs, simplifying a process or showing genuine empathy when it matters most.
“For the NRC, this commitment extends to all our operational areas across the country. We shall continue to focus on creating a consistent and responsive experience, regardless of where or how customers choose to engage with us.”
He noted that the organisation would continue to encourage customer feedback and strengthen the connection between customer insights and continuous service improvement.
“The Corporation remains committed to making exceptional service an everyday practice rather than a once-a-year celebration. It believes that every interaction presents an opportunity to listen better, respond faster, show genuine care and create greater value for its customers,” said he, maintaining that “The Extra Mile” is more than a Customer Service Week theme; it is a commitment to making every customer interaction count. We shall continue to ensure that our passengers enjoy every moment of their journey on our trains.”
