NSC, UNILAG to collaborate on maritime capacity building

The Executive Secretary/CEO, Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Barrister Pius Akutah, says the Council is ready to collaborate with the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to strengthen capacity building and policy development in Nigeria’s maritime sector.

The Executive Secretary/CEO stated this when he welcomed a UNILAG delegation, led by Wale Olawoyin, Head of the Department of Commercial and Industrial Law, to the NSC headquarters in Lagos on Friday, June 27, 2025.

Akutah described the proposed partnership as both timely and strategic as he emphasized the Council’s dedication to introducing practical training programmes that will enhance workforce capacity and meet the evolving demands of the maritime industry.

“We are committed to strengthening our human capital, and we welcome this opportunity to work closely with UNILAG in areas that will enhance sector performance,” Akutah stated.

Olawoyin praised the NSC’s leadership and affirmed UNILAG’s readiness to contribute meaningfully to the maritime space through academic collaboration.

“There is much to be gained from a well-structured relationship with the Shippers’ Council, and we are confident this can contribute meaningfully to national maritime development,” he said.

The visit marks the beginning of what both institutions hope will be a long-term, impactful partnership—focused on capacity building, policy innovation, and advancing Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy agenda.
