Tin Can Customs collects N128.4 billion revenue

The month of May 2025 was a good one for the Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service as its revenue profile surged by 28 percent. The command collected N128,446,323,224.79 against  N92,671,603,417.04 collected in May 2024 into the the coffers of the government.

In April 2025, the Command raked in N145 billion, compared to N95.5 billion generated in April 2024.

This revenue feat was attributed to the quality leadership of the Command’s Controller, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, which focuses on trade facilitation, robust anti-smuggling measures, and enhanced revenue collection processes.

According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Unit, Superintendent  of Customs Oscar Ivara, Comptroller Onyeka has spearheaded a series of reforms aimed at aligning the Command’s operations with national economic goals and the  vision of Consolidation, Collaboration and Innovation of  the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.

Comptroller Onyeka’s aim has always been that of seamless revenue generation, while he encourages trade that is not harmful to the economy.

“My aim is to generate revenue seamlessly. I encourage trade facilitation, but the trade has to be legitimate and not harmful to the economy,” said Comptroller Onyeka.

The Tin Can Island Command remains a key pillar in the NCS’s strategic mission to boost national revenue and facilitate legitimate trade

Under his stewardship, the Tin Can Island Command has witnessed improved operational efficiency, tighter enforcement mechanisms,  greater synergy among stakeholders, high level of professionalism  and transparency , virtues that have been hailed by maritime stakeholders.
