APM Terminals to sanction trucks over prolonged stay in terminal

APM Terminals has threatened to take action against trucks that refuse to exit its terminal upon completion of their assigned container transactions.

APM Terminals warned that trucks that stay beyond a maximum grace period of 30 minutes that is permitted following the completion of the transaction will be reported to the Security Department without exception.

The terminal operator also warned that non-compliance will result in corrective measures, including suspension of the truck’s registration and the imposition of penalties as stipulated in Section 6.2.8 of the Bahrain Ports Tariff.

This warning was contained in an advisory to customers by APM Terminals Bahrain following some external trucks that remain inside the terminal for extended periods—ranging from 2 to 4 hours—after completing container drop-off or pick-up transactions.

The customer advisory reads thus: We would like to bring to your attention an important reminder regarding truck movement and compliance requirements within the terminal.

It has been observed that some external trucks remain inside the terminal for extended periods—ranging from 2 to 4 hours—after completing container drop-off or pick-up transactions. In certain instances, trucks were found engaging in unrelated activities such as handling loose cargo, that are not related to their truck appointment.

To safeguard the integrity of our operations and ensure full compliance with established port standards, all trucking companies and drivers are hereby reminded of the following mandatory requirements:

Trucks are required to exit the terminal immediately upon completion of their assigned container transactions.

A maximum grace period of 30 minutes is permitted following the completion of the transaction. Any truck remaining inside the terminal beyond this limit will be reported to the Security Department without exception.

Non-compliance will result in corrective measures, including suspension of the truck’s registration and the imposition of penalties, as stipulated in Section 6.2.8 of the Bahrain Ports Tariff.

Repeated violations will lead to deactivation of the truck’s access privileges in the system, and the driver will be referred to the Security Department for further administrative action.
