Maritime Media and Capacity Development Centre to be launched December 17
The Maritime Media and Capacity Development Centre will be officially launched on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at BWC Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. The centre is to be chaired by the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi,
The Centre is established to strengthen capacity building, professionalism and specialised knowledge within maritime journalism and allied maritime stakeholders, in response to the increasing complexity of the sector and the need for informed, data-driven reporting and engagement.

Other members of the Advisory Board are: Dr. Pius Ukeyima Akutah, Executive Secretary/CEO, Nigerian Shippers’ Council; Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, Vice President, International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) Global; Mr. Kingsley Igwe, Registrar, Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) and Captain Waredi Enisuoh, Director of Operations, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited.
The launch of the Maritime Media and Capacity Development Centre builds on years of sustained engagement with maritime journalists through annual training seminars and is designed to provide a more structured, continuous platform for capacity development, research, policy engagement and professional collaboration.
The event will also bring together key stakeholders from government agencies, maritime operators, labour unions, security organisations and the media to discuss the future of maritime communication, capacity development and sectoral growth.
